well, i let the battery drain over night and then plugged it back in this morning. i saw the 'battery icon' but was not able to reset the machine. i left it for several hours and now, when i press the magic reset keys (left button + up selector) it reset and started up just fine. phew! now i just need to complete the recharge and i should be set.2008-12-31 : 00:38 GMT
official word from MSFT is that 30GB Zunes have a bad clock driver that will 'fix itself' once the (local?) time changes to 2009-01-01. first, you let the Zune battery drain, then recharge, reset, re-sync. huh.
according to various reports, all 30GB Zunes are bricks today. mine is not even recognized as a device on my PC (WinXP, Vista, or Ubuntu).
*facepalm*
